DESTINATION AGGIELAND APP
Project
Mobile app update for a new platform
CLIENT
Texas A&M University
Deliverable
Native iOS and Android mobile apps
Working on this project was a unique case because the client was on our company’s basic product, but wanted to move up to the more advanced product. As such, the entire experience had to be completely redesigned, but the client did not want to lose any of the features from the old app so that there was a sense of familiarity for returning users.

CHALLENGES
The previous experience had so many branching flows that the client was very adamant about including in the new app.
The app would be used in an official capacity with the university and as such, had very strict brand guidelines to follow.
GOALS
Create a completely new look that feels modern and exciting.
In general, make the experience more intuitive to use by streamlining flows whenever possible.
PROCESS
Hands-On Research
Download previous app and identify/map out each flow.
Discuss
Meet with project manager and mobile devs to review timelines, road map and overall goals.
Wireframe
Using Balsamiq, create a base wireframe to illustrate the new direction.
Logo
Using Illustrator, create an updated branding logo to better fit the updated graphics.
Design
Using a combination of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, create initial mockups of main screens. Review with project manager.
Refine
Continue creating UI for submenus and detail pages to show full flows. Present to client, making any necessary edits based on feedback.
Handoff
Upon approval, output / create assets for a smooth handoff to the mobile devs.
Spot Check
Check in with mobile devs for status updates during implementation to ensure design guidelines are being adhered to.
Style
Create the CSS for each detail page.
Roll Out
After everything has been checked and tested, roll out updated app to the app store.

CONCLUSION
I put a lot of pressure on myself to deliver on this project because I knew it would be in hands of thousands of students shortly after the release of the app. I think I was successful in creating an entirely new experience, while still being familiar to all the previous users.
In addition, I created various print and digital assets for the university to use to help spread awareness of the updated app.
The client loved the new direction that I took with the visual updates and could not wait to start pushing it. On top of that, app store reviews have been almost entirely positive too!
