NYC WINE & FOOD FEST APP
Project
App design update
CLIENT
Food Network + Cooking Channel
Deliverable
Native iOS and Android mobile apps
This was a great project because the client was open to all design direction that I would provide while still being collaborative. Like the previous years that this even has been held, thousands of people would be in attendance, so I knew I wanted to make the graphics to look great by using nice and clean iconography and photos throughout.
ROLE
UX/UI Designer
COLLABORATORS
Project Manager
Account Manager
Mobile Developers
Client
TOOLS
Adobe Illustrator CC
Adobe Photoshop CC
Adobe InDesign CC
CHALLENGES
Client requested that I continue using the simple two-color palette.
Created the HTML and CSS for the RSS feed importer, which produced hundreds of detail pages that all needed to be consistent.
GOALS
Use graphics and photography that are both clean and colorful.
Include new features that would drive more users to download and use the app.
PROCESS
Hands-On Research
Download previous app and identify/map out each flow.
Discuss
Meet with project manager and mobile devs to review timelines and overall goals.
Design
Using a combination of InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, create initial mockups of main screens. Review with project manager.
Refine
Continue creating UI for submenus and detail pages to show full flows. Present to client, making any necessary edits based on feedback.
Handoff
Upon approval, output / create assets for a smooth handoff to the mobile devs.
Spot Check
Check in with mobile devs for status updates during implementation to ensure design guidelines are being adhered to.
Style
Create the CSS to be used on every detail page.
Roll Out
After everything has been checked and tested, roll out updated app to the app store.
CONCLUSION
The client loved the design direction from the beginning and had very little edit requests, making this a very smooth operation. Useful new features made the app very useful to use during the event, like creating a personalized schedule or the friend finder in case you get separated from your pack. From the successes of this project, we got asked to work on their Miami event, the SOBE Wine & Food Festival.
